The Value of Silence

A Thought

The ability to stay still, quiet, and observant can benefit your life in more ways than one.

If you get angry with someone, staying still can help you manage your emotions, which can preserve your future relationships.

Being observant in social settings lets you learn more about others and develop new friendships.

By being quiet, you can carefully consider your options, thus leading to better decision-making.

A Truth

The one who learns the most is often the one who says the least.

An Action

In what areas of my life can silence benefit me most?

Keys to Discipline

A Thought

1. Staying disciplined is less about using willpower and more about limiting your options.

Limiting your options is a result of saying no and saying no is a result of knowing what you value.

If you value 'X', you will say no to 'Y'.

2. Discipline is directly linked to our values.

For example, eating at least 2 meals a day is a non-negotiable for almost everyone and that is because of the value we place on food. The same thing goes for being disciplined in any area of life -- If something is of high value to us, we are more likely to get it done and vice-versa.

Your actions are influenced by your values. So, if you want to change your actions you must first change your values.

A Truth

1. Disciplined individuals are people who have learned to limit their options.

2. Disciplined individuals are people who have learned to make certain values non-negotiable.

An Action

What do I need to say 'No' to in order to become more disciplined?

What values/non-negotiables do I need to set in place to become more disciplined?

Responsibilities vs Recognition

A Thought

You get no credit for doing what you ought to do in the first place. You get credit for doing what you ought to and then more.

A Truth

Doing what you said you would do should make you feel responsible, but not entitled.

An Action

In what areas am I seeking recognition for doing what is expected of me?
