Discipline

A Thought:

Discipline is the ability to consistently accomplish the tasks you set out to do, over an extended period of time.

Discipline is the ability to keep your thoughts, emotions, and actions in line with an end goal.

The words that stand out are 'consistently' and 'accomplished'.

Consistent: on a regular basis

Accomplish: start and finish

You can develop all the skills in the world but without the ability to regularly start and finish what you ought to, you won't get much done.

A Truth:

Showing up is the hardest part of being disciplined. "Showing up is 80% of the work."

It is rare that one will show up and not actually get something done, but most times the opposite is true. When we don't show up, we often fail to at least start on the tasks we have.

An Application:

The question is, how can I be more consistent? How can I accomplish my tasks?

Show up, for at least an hour (that's one episode of your favourite series)

The Value of Time

A Thought:

What is something you have but will never own? Time.

Time is like a prepaid phone line, you can use it freely in the present, but down the road, the bill comes due. The bill of time is shown through your health, relationships, mindset, and position in life.

Time is something you can either invest in or consume.

A Truth:

When it comes to what people regret most, it is often related to how they spent their time. The loss of money and energy are often major regrets, but the biggest regret is the loss of the one thing we can't get back -- time.

An Application:

Return on Time (ROT)

Is this the best use of my time?

Courage

Courage is the ability to face challenges with persistence and bravery.

A Thought:

Discipline will keep you going but without courage, you will not get started.

Discipline is a matter of keeping yourself in the fight; courage is a matter of choosing to fight.

A Truth:

Facing challenges in life is not a matter of 'if', but a matter of 'when'. We will all face challenges, but what those challenges make out of us depends on how we face them.

'If' is a statement of mere hope, but 'when' is a function of planning.

There is a difference between the person who says, "If trouble comes..." and the person who says, "When trouble comes..."

An Application:

What is my view towards adversity?

Do I say "if" or "when"?
